Since releasing the beta, I've been asked a few times about the mysterious "Live Performance Mode" button in Cantabile Performer. When clicked it just says "not implemented", so I thought I'd explain. Actually, it's not completely clear in my mind yet, but essentially it's going to be a full screen mode with:
I'd like to include the ability to show text notes (eg: lyrics) and customizable background image, but I'm not sure where this should be configured (do lyrics belong on the session list entry, per-sub-session or somewhere else).
Finally, when in this mode there'll be a couple of underlying changes like never prompting to save modified sessions and automatically disabling screen savers.
So why is the button there already? So that anyone taking a look at the beta can hopefully see the big picture of how it all comes together.
When will it be implemented? Not immediately, probably after everything else. Right now I'm going to concentrate on finishing anything associated with the audio engine itself including stability and performance tuning. The Live Performance Mode should be just UI work and can come later.

Life performance mode is a really interesting idea and will add a new dimension to the program just having scrateched the surface with the new "session lists".
What I am really after is integration, means ONE program to control all my needs when I play, check out sounds, arrange songs with friends and when I set up all my gear for that, regardless if it's an old midi synth or the latest VSTi. On top adding even simple notes or other douments would make it almost perfect... anyone remembering the dream of "paperless" offices...? ;) maybe will get a paperless keyboard setup at last...
Usual host software offers more or less features but easy ramdom access and fast switching with minimum button presses - leaving the mouse where it belongs then, to the cat... ;) - isn't seriously addressed. The most "advanced" is an inflexible list approach with some live hosts... a nightmare to maintain and organize intuitively and flexibly if you don't do it for a lifetime...
Here is the chance to change that and create something useful for the "normal" musician, regardless if amateur, entertainer or high grade professional.
Ease of use and access counts after having put all together and Cantabile has the chance and potential to set a new standard here!
I am looking forward to that...
